  2. Found your website through IL. Very nice perspectives. I’ve been to Belize but only for a few days. It’s on my list of dream locations.
Well done sound like you’re making the best of a great situation!
I look forward to following your adventure.

    • Hi Lee,

Thanks for reading along! This is quite an adventure for our family. It’s very interesting stepping away from our own culture for an extended time and I’m glad to share the stories. :)

  3. Hello, Domini! I just found you today and I can’t wait to follow your adventure. I actually want to try Belize or Costa Rica in a couple years when I retire. I’d like to stay at least a couple years, though.

Originally from Ireland, I have a huge travel bug. Saturday I leave for my niece’s wedding back home in Ireland, but will return to the US for Christmas with friends here in Colorado where I live. If you run into anyone who’d like a “partner” to share a journey in Belize with in the next couple years, let me know.

I’ll be ready your stories from here on……….Anne

    • Hi Anne,

Ireland… Hmmm… Another of our dream destinations. My husband has both red hair and roots in Ireland, so it would be cool to spend some time there for a future family sabbatical. I do love Central America, though. Costa Rica and Belize are cool in their own unique ways. And have you considered Panama? It also has a lot going for it.

      Thanks for reading! :)

      • Domini, my niece’s Christmas wedding in Ireland was wonderful….we danced a lot…..the whole family.

Yes, I have considered and cotninue to consider it. First, I’m going back to Cost Rica next fall, just for another look….friend has a lovely place there.

Merry Christmas to you and your family……..Anne

        • Anne,

I’m so glad you had a fun time at the wedding! I love weddings. :)

I really do like Costa Rica quite a lot, too. I think certain areas have become quite Americanized but still well worth visiting.

          Merry Christmas to you, too!

  4. Thanks Especially for the writings outlining the more negative aspects of your experience. One gets little of this. My sights are on Ecuadornbut my wife lacks my enthusiasm and though you write from Belize I’m certain the misgivings apply and it helps me understand. We’ve been to E twice and had very good times. Great bio and cultural diversity and wonderful climate(s). 42 winters in fridgid Fairbanks is way to many. Thanks.

    • Hi Jim,

Ecuador is a place I’d like to hang my hat for awhile. It was in fact on our list of places to try for this trip, but in the end Belize chose us. I also quite like Panama and Costa Rica. So many places, so little time.

Thanks for reading along. I’m learning a lot a lot about myself during this journey and find fulfillment in sharing with others. :)
